Update on recent waiting list opening
FOR THOSE WHO APPLIED: Submitting a pre-application was the first step in the application process. Once pre-applications submitted between June 2, 2025 and June 6, 2025 have been reviewed, you will receive an email from Raleigh Housing Authority and Rent Café. This email will direct you on how to update or make changes to your household member information, address, phone numbers and preferences.
Raleigh Housing Authority expects the application review process to take some time. We appreciate your patience and ask that you not contact RHA to ask about your status, as we will not know until your pre-application has been processed. Please be on the lookout for an email with information and instructions.

Waiting List Pre-Applications NOW CLOSED!
As of 1pm on Friday, June 6, 2025, all waiting lists have been closed.
Raleigh Housing Authority (RHA) provides two types of public housing: conventional public housing and incentive based public housing. RHA manages site-based waiting lists by bedroom size for both conventional and incentive-based public housing communities. Each community has a separate application, application process, and waiting list. Applicants are able to apply for as many or as few of RHA’s available public housing waiting lists as desired.
Due to limited availability, completed pre-applications will be selected based on time and date of the pre-application plus any applicable preferences. There is no fee to submit a pre-application.
IMPORTANT: COMPLETE ONLY ONE (1) PRE-APPLICATION PER HOUSEHOLD! Multiple applications received from any individual or family unit will be rejected! Applicants may select multiple waiting lists within the one application. If you do not have access to a computer, Wake County public libraries offer free computer access for library card holders or you may obtain a PC use card with photo ID. Applicants should reach out to their case worker or other support system member for additional assistance with the online application, if needed. Applicants may also request assistance from individual property management offices. After you have registered and successfully applied, you will receive an email confirming your registration, confirming the date & time of submitting your pre-application, and instructions for checking your wait list status online. Remember, once on the wait list, YOU are responsible for keeping your contact mailing address, phone number and email information up to date, and for checking your wait list status. If we are unable to contact you, your name will be removed from the waiting list.
Submitting a pre-application does NOT guarantee a place on our available public housing waiting lists. Each pre-application must be reviewed prior to acceptance. To be placed on the waiting list, all applicants must meet all income eligibility, occupancy standards, and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) income and eligibility requirements. What do you need to apply?
- Full legal name for all household members
- Social Security Number for all household members (if available)
- Date of birth for all household members
- Total gross household income
- Valid email address (If a community partner is assisting you with your application, you may use the community partner’s email address, if you do not have one.)
- Current mailing address
- Phone number
There is no fee to apply. We will never ask for a credit card or payment for you to apply for housing.
REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
Persons with disabilities have the right to request a Reasonable Accommodation for assistance with completing the pre-application online. A written request must be submitted and the request must describe the reason why a Reasonable Accommodation is needed.

No paper copy or older versions of pre-applications will be accepted.
