Creating Accessible Affordable Housing for the Greater Raleigh Area
Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single-family houses to high-rise apartments for elderly and disabled families. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers Federal aid to local housing agencies that manage the housing for low-income residents at rents they can afford.
Raleigh Housing Authority (RHA) provides two types of public housing: conventional public housing and incentive based public housing. RHA manages one conventional public housing waiting list and four separate incentive based public housing waiting lists. Each waiting list has a separate application and application process. Applicants are able to apply for as many or as few of RHA’s public housing waiting lists as desired.
RHA residents are invited to register on our new online RentCafe portal. There is no additional cost to you for your account setup. By creating your account, you will be able to review and update your contact information electronically. The portal will also help to facilitate communications with RHA staff, recertification, interims, and online rent payments.
